Decentralised Clinical
Trials

What are Decentralised Clinical Trials?

Clinical trials are how new medicines and treatments are developed but traditionally, they’ve often required patients to travel to specialist hospitals or research centres. This can make it hard for many people to take part.

A decentralised clinical trial (DCT) changes that. Instead of everything happening in one hospital or research site, parts of the trial can take place closer to where you live, even in your own home or at your local community pharmacy.

Community pharmacies play a key role in these new types of studies. They can:

§  Support Clinical research organisations by conducting database searches specific to medicines/conditions.

§  Support you in taking part by helping with sample collection, or completing check-ins, or providing details of related studies

§  Provide trusted healthcare professionals you already know to discuss research and how to take part.

§  Reduce the need for travel or long hospital visits.

For patients, this means it’s easier and more convenient to get involved in research for conditions that may affect you or your community, even studies you might not have known were taking place. It opens access to cutting-edge treatments and helps make medical research more inclusive and representative of real-world patients.

M&D Green have already established partnerships with clinical research organisations such as: Panthera Bio and UK Bio bank to allow our patients to be part of future research.
